SECOND WEEK IN AMERICA.

The first week was kindda unhappy week for me. I couldn't get used to do everything, so it was a kind of unexciting thing. Had to meet new people at once and remember their name....which I am not so good at. I was really really tired.

But! Meeting new people is also a great event. I don't know why, but I remember most of their name! Even Japanese, it's hard for me, but in here...amazing!

The classes began in earnest. I have three classes. One is Childrens literature, which is not so difficult to catch up, and, Freshman writing class, which also is not so difficult one. Yet! Multicultual American literature class which is 300s, is challenging....the subject itself is very very delicate....now we are discussing about african american or black muslim things, and later, we will start talking about Japanese or other ethnics, so might be easier than now for me.

I really really want to type in Japanese, but I am in PC lab right now, because, my laptop is NUTS! It freezes all the time....S!! Excuse moi lol

Now I have to read some books for the challenging class...the writer is Japanese-american named Takaki. I can do that! Okay I'll see you guys soonly, hope I can find enough time to keep posting, at least once a week or sth? haha I can do that.

AMERICA....

Jody was saying "We have to eat squar doughnuts if we visit Terre Haute!!" all the time, before we leave our country. And at last we had it all together. It was really a square shaped. But it was tooooooooooooo sweet to have more than one. One's enough to us. haha But Jody gave us a box of it and it was more than three for each. Too much Jody, you know we are kindda tiny, not like u!

Then we arrived at Rhoads Hall were we have to live for another 10 months in here.
I lived in a dorm even in Japan and I was a leader of it, so I was thinking what kind of dorm it is.
It's so cool! It's a dorm for honours:) I am lucky. We have no curfew, no duties like cleaning, can take shower whenever we want to. Awesome. Boys can come in.
I totally love my dorm:D I love the people lives in here. My roommate is so cool. I like her!

We had some orientation with freshman. We went to ground to take a ISU aerial photograph, I don't know how many were there, but heap of people were there.

I was in line to receive a ticket of free ISU t-shirt.

We are completely an are alien in here, so we needed to be checked our blood and career of immuno injection. It was so hurt... may. Takako was so pale, so the nurse said "are you okay? Is she okay?" haha

On Tuesday, we went to county library to join a conversation club for women.
It wasn't bad, but there was many Japanese women who came here with their husband.

On that evening, we went to a "Japanese" restaurant to see some professors.
I think there was no Japanese cook in the restaurant. And the taste was really "Japanese" taste. haha I don't hate it, tho.

What I can say is, I totally enjoy the stay in here:)

FINALLY, I AM IN THE STATES!

I left my country, Japan on the last Saturday morning from Fukuoka airport.
Then we went to Centrair, Nagoya. Then a big problem came up! One of my buddy couldn't left the country to the states together!! Oh my goodness! A professor and we all three were praying for the student. It was unexpected, so we worried about her so much in the air craft. Finally, she could come to the states and in Texas, after a day later. I cannot imagine how she were alone and worried. If I were in her shoes, I cannot come to the states, just go back to my house maybe. So she is great:)

After more than 9 hours, we arrived at San Francisco, but it was around 9 or 10am, 16th of Aug...it means that I experienced the same day twice! I left Fukuoka around 12pm, so. AWESOME!
San Francisco's airport was so funny. It was the first place where I stepped on, the united states, so we needed to take some interview to enter the country. And my interviewer was, I think he was an Asian-american, his English was kindda difficult to listen to, but I could understand with some struggling. He asked me my purpose, so I answered, To attend a university for an academic year as an exchange student in Indiana. And next, he asked me, what is my major in Japan and America, so I said, My major in Japan and America is both English Literature. Then he asked me if I know Robert Frost. Haha thank god, I know him very well with tough Dr.Spetter's class at Baiko. So I said, yes I know him and I have written an essay about his poem once. Then he asked me heaps of American literature writers. Thanks to really really tough Prof.Tsutsumi's class, I could nod for all of his question. Then he said "welcome to america" haha

He didn't ask me how much I had with cash or any other details....haha lucky Gene.
Hey officer! WORK!

After that we needed to be checked our belongings. Then we were trapped from others with cheap belt like ribon with no shoes with no bags for 10 mins or like that, then we were shoted with strong wind in a small glass case, and released once and trapped again in another glass case all together and waited for another 10mins or like that again. Then they checked everything and gave them all to us. When we were waiting for our belongings came back to us, an officer came to us and asked "you look tired, it was long flight isnt it? You feel better in here? much better than the sitting on plane?"
Thanks man! You see?! You think we are feel better with no shoes?? After trapped in a strange glass case like a circus animal? Man come on and open your eyes and see me again! Haha. One of the officer tried to give Takako her belt, then he fell down it on the floor. He was laughing and said, sorry sorry I am sorry. how nice he is:) haha so I said, oh thank you your "very" nice. haha.

We frew down to Dallas FT Worth after that. The port was so cool!!!

Gross! Just gross America!
After more than 20hours from Japan and they welcomed me.

Whatever. Finally I am in America!

ITC-CSCC2008 @ Kaikyo messe

This week, it was so busy for me...I thought I would be dead!!
For 4days, last Suday through on the last Wednesday, some classmates and I joined ITC-CSCC2008 as an interpreter and a receptionist.
It was an international conference about engineering or IT things...so it was difficult to understand what they are talking about but we need not to listen to sessions, just join as an interpreter or receptionist, so it was okay and I really enjoy it heaps:)

On third day of the conference, they held a banquette. I guess, aprox 300 people joined it. Actually, Mami and I did its moderater!! It was amagin'!!
We are getting used to talking in front of bunch of people!
Baiko gives us a lot of opportunity to do that kind of things heaps these days.

First day's reception. We met some VIP at the recep, and through another three days, they talked to us at the reception desk or other place wherever we met again. It was a good opportunity to see VIP from all over the world, mainly Asia tho.

Mami?? What did you do there?? haha
We could go the observatory for free~ so we went there all together! It was so cool:)

Talking about the tower, my friend was asked to go there together by a Thailand guy on the second day of the conf. I was laughing at what happend on my friend, but on the third day and the forth day, a guy from Malasia asked me going out together again and again and again, he was a kind of sticky haha. Not bad guy, but his English was kindda funny, I thought. He add "actually" or "I mean" at the biginning of the sentences which he spoke. It was so funny for me. Needless to say, I didn't go out lol

I was just a little bit nervous, then main moterater Dr.Ding encouraged Mami an me a lot, so we did well. My turn was really short, Mami's one was kindda long one, so during she was doin MC, I was talking with Dr.Ding a lot about my future plan. Like in 5years, I want to enter a business school to have MBA or MPA, hopefully MPA in the States or like that kindda thing, then he offered me to be a reference:) Even if it's a compliment, it was so happy for me.

With VIPs from Thailand~he who standing at the centre is our smile prince lol

After everything had done, we tried to go to donate our blood in SeaMall. But we all forgot it was Wednesday, and it was closed. So, we gave up to doing it, and went to have nice sweets!! We...our body or brain needed something cold and sweet!

The 4days were totally awesome! I was so happy that I could join such a big international conference. We could know how much really we can speak or use our English. Mostly, it was okay sometime challenging, but we Baiko student was all one, so when we find something difficult, we could work together. And what was good, we could have a confidence in our English skill and pronunciation.

That was totally amazing!!!
