In America, it is difficult to find a nice restaurant. They always are disappointing.

Yesterday, it was the first day of my spring break, and I visit my friend's host family in Bloomington to cook some Japanese food with him. They are Serbian, the parents are a professor of Art, and History at IU, so the house was so pretty.

We cooked Udon, Soba and Tempura!
And some cucumber roll, which the host brother loves.

Toru making Tempura. We did not expect that Kakiage is such a challenging thing to make!!! but every one loved the tempura, so it's all right! We made Eggplant, Shitake mushroom, and sweet potatoes with Kakiage:) Every one loves them!

Depock....(i am not sure how to spell his name lol) He is good at rolling sushi!

Nicola cutting the rolled sushi. Actually, he is good at it lol

We needed more vinegar-seasoned rice for cucumber roll, so I made sushi vinegar again and making the special rice for it. We roll cucumber with pickled plum paste! It was so nice!

Such a sophisticated table! It looks not a Japanese food lol
All of them are so nice.
Yey!

The family had "cha-sen" and powdered green tea for tea ceremony, and they asked me if I can make tea for them. Fortunately, I have learned it for 10 years! I have not done it since two years ago or something, but my body remembered everything! I performed it "ru-rei" formed one. They loved it! I was happy:)

I think the family is interested in food.
They loved our food why because they are not American partially, but they might grew up with nice foods, not like the fast foods or cheesy stuff. They know how food is important for their lives with the good meals. If people grew up with only fast foods and cheesy stuff, they cannot feel the very delicate difference of the tastes of Japanese food, or any kind of meals.

It was a great day. I am sure I will enjoy the rest of SB too!

Well, I feel the time slips my feet so quickly and the speed is getting faster and faster day by day. Am I the only person, feel like that? It's already Spring Break, half of the semester had gone:) Dorm shut me out, and I was in the library but they also shut me out....I am waiting till my friend done his work for today. I have nowhere to go, I am sitting on a stony bench in front of the library right now. I am blogging smelling the spring perfume in the confy wind. I feel like I am a very very blessed person on the bench in the confy wind, but people can see piles of my bag and stuff for my Break....it makes my looking a tired person:p

The crimate is getting so tendar, we can see the spring is almost there! Sometimes very cold frond comes and snows, but most of days....it's like spring. The sunshine at the morning is getting cheerful colour, like vitamin colour! And I can smell the perfume of the typical spring day. But I cannot find "nano hana" flower, nor fully bloomed Plum tree around here, which is the populer elements to feel the arrival of the spring in Japan. Then....what can tell me the confy season came? Squells!!! They are jumping around!

Heap of wild squells are there in our campus. New greens are preparing themselves inside of the bared trees, but squells cannot wait till the green comes out. They are jumping, eating, running....I see them a lot these days.

I was killing myself to finish an paper till 5 in the morning, yesterday. And I submited it Dr.Dolle in time in the afternoon. I think the paper is no longer crappy, recentry. So I can enjoy the spring break with no assignment! I am completely free~. It was kinda tough, I mean the previous a few month were busy, and I could not have enough rest. Now I can! But in my backpack, I put three novels in there. I do not want to lose my habit, habit.....not really, but I must so....and I have a paper due on 19th on A Raisin In the Sun, I need to finish Zoot Suit and want to read Joy Luck Club.... haha

I will go to Bloomington tomorrow to cook some Japanese dish with my friend!
Hope it will be a nice dish....I still cannot use American ingredients for Japaense dish.....
The break would be so nice! I am sure I will enjoy it!

Japanese Prime Minister is famous for his misreading of Kanji characters. The end of the last year, mass media in the country was bussy with broadcasting about the problem. Finally it comes to the State! I found "Japan's news" on Yahoo.com, the top page of "world." This is very rare, coz the page is always busy with news from Africa or mid-east-Asia, but I found my countiry's name on the page! hahaha.

TOKYO – Reading Japanese isn't easy — even for the Japanese.

Take Prime Minister Taro Aso. He's made so many public blunders that an opposition lawmaker tried to give him a reading test during a televised session of parliament.

The Japanese leader bungled the word for "frequent," calling Japan-China exchanges "cumbersome" instead. Another time, he misread the word "toshu" (follow), saying "fushu" — or stench — and sounded as if he were saying government policy "stinks."

While the media and Aso's political rivals have been quick to heap ridicule, many Japanese have seen a bit more of themselves in Aso's goofs than they would like to admit. Since his missteps, books designed to improve reading ability have become all the rage.

Aso's nemesis is his mother tongue's notoriously tricky mishmash of Chinese characters and its two sets of indigenous syllabaries.

Here is what he — and all Japanese — are up against.

Just reading the newspaper requires knowledge of about 2,000 characters. Another 50,000 are less common but useful to recognize.

And that's just for starters.

Most characters have several different pronunciations depending on the context. For instance, the two characters in the prime minister's surname can be read several ways. The first character, which means linen, is pronounced "asa" or "ma." The second — meaning life, raw, or to occur or grow — can be pronounced "nama," "sei," "sho," or "ki," to list just a few possibilities. And together, they are pronounced "Aso" (Ah-so).

During last month's televised parliament session, opposition lawmaker Hajime Ishii chided Aso for his stumbles, saying: "We'd better discuss Chinese characters."

Then holding up a cardboard panel with a list of a dozen words, he asked: "Can you handle them?"

Aso refused to take the impromptu test, but Ishii didn't back down. "Today, those who can't read Chinese characters are scoffed at, and people are rushing to buy textbooks," he said. "Perhaps you deserve credit for boosting their sales."

Literacy-boosting books are selling briskly. One titled, "Chinese Characters that Look Readable but are Easily Misread," released a year ago, has sold more than 800,000 copies — most of them since Aso's mistakes first got national attention in November, said Yukiko Sakita, a spokeswoman for Futami Shobo Publishing Co.

"We owe a lot to Prime Minister Aso," she said. "Many people don't want to make mistakes like his."

The book has held the top spot in the weekly best-seller rankings compiled by Japan's largest distributor, Tohan Co., since the beginning of this year, ahead of "The Speeches of Barack Obama," which ranked second for weeks before falling to 17th this week.

"A text like this holding the No. 1 spot is extremely unusual," said Tohan official Hiroki Tomatsu. "As far as the book ranking is concerned, Mr. Aso beat Mr. Obama."

Gossip magazines have compiled lists of words Aso has misread and blamed the prime minister's love of comic books, or "manga," for his weakness. "Manga brain," one magazine lamented. At a school in Aso's hometown, Fukuoka, children who make reading mistakes are called "little Taros."

Aso's gaffe over Japan's relationship with China occurred in a speech in November, when instead of saying the countries' exchanges were "hinpan," or frequent, he proclaimed them "hanzatsu," or cumbersome.

His most embarrassing stumble, however, was over the word "unprecedented," which takes three Chinese characters to write. He read the third character incorrectly, saying "mee-zoh-you" instead of "mee-zoh" — such a basic mistake that it would turn a high school kid's face red.

Aso may be trying too hard, said Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano, respected statesman and grandson of a renowned poet.

"Some people just fall deeper into trouble the harder they try," he said.

Some pundits have acknowledged Aso isn't alone in the struggle with the written word.

"It's not just Aso," columnist Kenichiro Horii wrote in a recent issue of the Weekly Bunshun magazine. "I feel awkward ridiculing someone else's reading mistakes. Haven't you made mistakes in the past, too?"

According to a 2007 government survey, one-fifth of Japanese 16 or older often encounter Chinese characters they cannot read, while one-third have trouble writing them without looking them up. Nearly half said they still need to master the 2,000 characters considered necessary for daily life.

"Japanese is difficult," the best-selling primer on reading said. "But we don't want to humiliate ourselves in public."

I have no class next week, because it's Spring Break!
Well, one more super tough day tomorrow. then my happy happy time will come!
but before the break, I have a due for Mid term of Dolle's American Lit Survey. It's like a paper tho. I will analyze Sarah Morton's The African Chief with the conscept of Enlightenment. I have ta work on it!!!

I had an interview with Dr. Dolle, today.
His office was so neat, inspite of his....his looking lol When I knock his door, he said, "Kamsahamnida~" I was like "what?" so I said...."it's Korean lol" and I sneaked into his room...hehe "oh was it? well...in Japanese.....humm....how do you say? I might know." said Dolle, so I told him we use "Konnichwa" for hello. Then he said, "That's it!" so I asked him that he knew it or not. Then he said "No, I didn't know." hahahawwww I love him so much lol Why Jake strongly suggested me not to take his course? I still cannot understand....

First, he gave me back my response paper, which I turned a few weeks ago. I had to write the paper to show how I understand Puritanizm or Enlightenment through textbook, with my self experiences. I wrote about the similarity of John Winthrop and Japanese Mission Schools. The result was.....B-. Humm, not bad. Because I finished the paper in hurry lol so it was crappy.

I know the paper was crap. I will perform better than the one on the mid term, I swore him lol
He said that my English is sometimes rough, but the paper itself was much better than freshman's paper lol Well....that's good!

Dolle seems that he is a person who motivate him students through praise?
He asked me if I had taken any writing class. So I said that I took ENG101 with freshman students. Then he said that it might too easy for me. Yeah....most of my papers were A or above...

Dolle suddenly became a sover face and said, "I....I have been to Japan........for two hours! When I was a navy, I changed planes in there to Korean war!" hahaha it cannot be "have been" or something lol

My last paper was about Puritanizm, so we talked about religion. He asked me what is the religion in Japan. "is it Christianity....or Buddism....Tayonism...or Hinduism?" hahahah Hinduism?! so I told him that most Japanese are traditionally, Buddist or mixed of some religion with Buddism. Then he said, "so...Christianity is minority, huh?" and I said that there are less than one percent of Christian in Japan. Then he was like "well...." so I continued "any god can be "one of a god of many gods" in Japan when they introduced. Jesus might one of it, but he is still god in there, not rejected like Jewish thinks or downed as a prophet like Muslims...he is still god in Japan lol" I talked very roughly lol Lastly, I told him that they can be Diest! to show I understand his favourite writer Benjamin Franklin and Enlightenment lol

I might receive 'B' so forth. not bad.
I skipped the class once and I got F once for quiz...so but he said it might all right.

Such a funny and nice professor lol
He will cover Poe tomorrow!
I cannot wait!
I have to read the fat book for tomorrow:)

I do not want to work on my test preparation....terrible some! But I have ta....coz I have exam tomorrow....but I cannot concentrate on it...so I was reading Yahoo.com to find something fun and I found a cute news!

The title is "Kids Prefer Veggies with Cool Names"

Well...the second article today...but I have nothing to write about me today so ... copy and paste!

Kids won't eat their vegetables? Rename them, scientists say.

In a new study, 186 four-year-olds were given regular carrots and, on other lunch days, they were given the same vegetables renamed X-ray Vision Carrots. On the latter days, they ate nearly twice as many.

The study suggests the influence of these names might persist.

Children continued to eat about 50 percent more carrots even on the days when they were no longer labeled as anything special.

The research, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, was presented today at the annual meeting of the School Nutrition Association in Washington, DC.

"Cool names can make for cool foods," says lead author Brian Wansink of Cornell University.

"Whether it be 'power peas' or 'dinosaur broccoli trees,' giving a food a fun name makes kids think it will be more fun to eat. And it seems to keep working - even the next day," Wansink said.

Similar results have been found with adults. A restaurant study showed that when the Seafood Filet was changed to Succulent Italian Seafood Filet, sales increased 28 percent and taste rating increased by 12 percent. "Same food, but different expectations, and a different experience," said Wansink, author of "Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think."

The veggie study was conducted in pre-schools, but the researchers believe the same naming tricks can work with children at home.

"I've been using this with my kids," said researcher Collin Payne, "Whatever sparks their imagination seems to spark their appetite."

It seems that....boys should be affected more than girls lol I think boys eat easily if we name veges with Heros' name. Well....such as.....such as....oops! I do not know any hero now! I only can find Ultra man Taro.....www old..... but might be Ultra Bell pepper? haha nonsense! I cannot feed my child with this kinda thing lol but...it sounds similar to the a fish sausage's package with Pokemon on.

well...okay now I am ready to go back working on my test prep!

Tons of whales and dolphins stranded in Tasmania last night.
I found the news on Yahoo.co.jp and there was its original article on the page, so why dont we check it together? We might find some more detail or something. There was a few information on the Japanese news page. Yet the original article also includes a few info...well no problem, just check it!

Well, copy it and paste it! as usual...

ONLY about a quarter of the pilot whales and dolphins stranded on a King Island beach last night are expected to be saved.

As more than 100 King Island residents battle to save as many as possible, Parks and Wildlife staff are optimistic about the chances of the surviving animals.

About 140 of the pilot whales have already died.

Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service officer Chris Arthur said 54 of the 194 pilot whales and seven dolphins were still alive.

He said there were some concerns about another group of whales offshore of the standing site.

Police said first reports of the stranding, believed to be one of the State's biggest, were made about 8.30 last night. It is understood the whales were trapped by a very low tide.

The King Island event is the latest in a string of whale strandings on Tasmania's coast. In late January 48 sperm whales died after beaching themselves on Perkins Island, near Smithton.

In November a pod of about 80 pilot whales were stranded on rocks at Sandy Cape on the West Coast.

Humm...obviously, we could not find not so many detail even in the original script...I thought we can find the word "Sea Shepard" in there lol I want to say...if they have a time to threaten Japanese whale catchers, go to the beach and help the whales! I think SS is build with outlaw like people and they seems spoiled with propaganda....for me. What they really want to do?! They wanna help whale and its environment? Is it real? How many people in the group working for the purpose to help whales?? Last month, I translate an article about the battle of SS and Japanese whale catchers. According to the article, SS is in the ocean near by Tasmania! Why they did not go to the beach to help?????!!! Residents are struggling with save the dolphins, but SS is throwing a rotten butter or something into Japanese whale ship at that time, might be. Stupid. Stupid.....Silly silly silly! Something is wrong! But I could see....SS is that kinda group....okay. I do not care about them any more :(

If I ask my friend or my friend asks me, "Let's dine together at a restaurant!" in America, we also ask "what do you wanna have or feel like?" Whenever my friend asks me, I answer, "Well...not oily stuff!" Then we have only a few options.

Always my friend asks me that what do I want to have. So today, when he asked me to go out, I asked him that what he wanna have. Then he said "well....not oily one." hahaha we cannot use the word any more, I mean the word "not oily" in here. hahaha. so I said, "it is almost an answer! There are so a few option hey!" haha.

If we does not say "not oily" then we have plenty of option, such as, Apple Bee, Steakin Shake, Olivegarden, Tokyo....steak house...or so forth.

But If we say " not oily!" it is almost an answer. China or Thai.

"What do you wanna have?" my friend asked me. So I said "a soup, not thick one."

Whenever we dine, we go to this Thai restaurant or Chinese restaurant around 25th lol

I always order Tom Yam Gai soup at this restaurant. It's kinda sour and nice!
And we share dish. We had a Tiger....Tiger something. It was a dish of shrimp! It was so yum!
I love soup and shrimp...they make me happy~

We had them so slowly with chatting and now I back to my dorm....
oh.....I have to prepare for a test on Tue....terrible some.....I need to escape from reality!
